Raft Building And My Last Post For The Year

For my last post of the year I am going to post about our recent class trip. We hiked up the Bridle Path for about an hour and a half. After our hike we made down to Corsair Bay. At Corsair Bay we made rafts. We had a team competition to see who's team's raft could get out to the floating platform. It was very fun! Everyone seemed to have enjoyed themselves too!

I hope you enjoyed my post and here is a class picture of us before our hike ended.

Happy Holidays!

100WC Australian Crocodiles

This week for the 100WC the prompt was:

Wide,  Orange,  Crocodile,  Within,  Collapsed

With my 100WC I searched up some facts about Australian Crocodiles.  I learnt some interesting facts about how Australian Saltwater Crocodiles are by far the most dangerous animals in Australia.

Here is my 100WC for this week, feel free to comment.

I was travelling around Australia, reptiles crawling and haunting the rivers. I came across a gigantic crocodile, it’s wide mouth opened and collapsed when a school of fish swam past his long body. Within the distance between the crocodile and I, I could easily be attacked.

I ran as fast as I could. All the way back to my van. I was hot but nothing was going to stop me getting to safety.

I got that feeling that the crocodile was chasing after me. The sky was transitioning colours, as I turned what I saw was a beautiful orange sky.

The Fear Streaming Tears

Today we had a task of writing a new 100WC.
This weeks prompt was: '…as the smoke cleared…'
Hope you enjoy my 100WC and feel free to leave a positive comment.

It was a warm summer's evening, I was slowly falling asleep on the couch. I was home alone. I woke up with a sudden fear. I could smell some sort of smoke coming through the kitchen window.

THE NEIGHBORS APARTMENT WAS ON FIRE!🔥

My brain was going crazy… What should I do?
It then came to me that I needed to get down low and get out of my apartment.
I grabbed some appliances and got out.
I called the fire department, and they got to the apartment buildings in about 5 minutes.

By then it was about 11:45 P.M.
As the smoke cleared I saw the firefighters bring out a 6 year old boy. I could see tears of fear streaming down his cheeks.

My Speech: Money should NOT have been invented!

For the past 5 weeks, we have been working on our speeches. We were given some topics to choose from or we could make up our own topics. Our speeches had to intrigue the audience, make sense and be presented with confidence. The topic I chose  was 'Money should NOT have been invented!'

Here is my video of me presenting my speech! Feel free to comment.

The Best Opportunity!

The Best Opportunity!

For the past term, Yaldhurst Model School and about 100 other schools have been planning and creating movies, animations and much more, for the 2016 Digi Awards!
My group: Hannah, Prudence, Violet and I made a Digi Award in the Digital SandPit category.

Our Digi Award was called ‘Be The Change’ (which is not fun also the theme of the 2016 Digi Awards)
Our Digi Award was created using Minecraft.

About a week ago, Miss Blair got an email from the Digi Award creators, saying that they wanted our group to come to the Digi Award prizegiving.
When we found out that we were either going to get, 1st, 2nd or 3rd place, we were very excited because we didn’t think it was that good!

The Digi Award prizegiving came around the corner very quickly, last night was the night we found out what placing we came.

The prizegiving started at 7:00PM and finished around 8:20PM.
The night started off with a warming welcome. The first category they showed was Digital Art. One of our students from Te Pihinga won 1st place!
The next category was Movie Making. We had two entries for a placing in this category, a group from Te Pihinga and a whole class entry from Te Kakano.
The group from Te Pihinga ‘The Villain’ was about a bully changing into a hero. They won 1st place! The entry from Te Kakano won 3rd place!
The last category our school was entered in for a placing was Digital SandPit.

It was time to wait for our group to be called up to the stage with our placing. They called each placing up starting with 3rd, then 2nd and finally 1st!

At this moment we thought they brought us here for nothing because they hadn’t announced our group.
But then they said our group for 1st place! We all had mixed emotions. It all felt like a dream; we couldn’t believe we had just won 1st place!

We got out of our seats and walked onto the stage shaking of excitement. They presented our Digi Award on the big screen.
When we got back to our seats we opened the bag of goodies and realised that we had just won a Google Cardboard each!
If you don’t know what Google Cardboard is here is a link to a website that tells you all about Google Cardboard: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Cardboard

After that we didn’t really pay any attention to any of the other awards because we were still in shock.
Until they did the prize draw. The prize they were giving away was a brand new ChromeBook. DRUM ROLL PLEASE… The Villain from Yaldhurst Model School! When they announced the winner we all stood up clapping and cheering! On the way home, we added up all of the prizes each school got and realised that our school had won the most prizes out of any other schools!

Here is our Digi Award
Hope you enjoy!

From the night, I realised some things we should've changed. E.g. re-edit some things to make sure everything is spelt correctly.
Some things we found challenging from creating our Digi Award were; that we had a tough time making each of our creations in the movie because we couldn't help each other create them.

Thank you for watching and feel free to comment down below what you thought of our Digi Award!

The HARDEST challenge of my Life!

The HARDEST
challenge of my Life!

Wednesday, 24th August 2016.

Today was the day of the competition; we had practice at break times, made exhibition art, and had a lot of fun.

A week before Cantamath, our classes had a task of making exhibitions for the competition. My group; Bella P, Bella N, Prudence and I decided to make a banner. It took about a week and a half to complete it (and got paint everywhere in the process!).

The banner is for supporting your school at the teams’ competition. It must be no larger than 5m x 2m. The banner can be hung from the top section of the stands at the East end of the arena - but must not interfere with the running of the team competition below.
There are two prizes in this section:
  • Best Visual Appeal - as judged by the Cantamath committee
  • Best Supporting Crowd - judged on the amount of noise on the night!

(We’re still waiting for an answer; whether we got a prize or not.)

We got to the Arena at 3:40 pm. We were nervous and excited.
Your team gets 5 points each time you get a question right. Our team got 20 points= 4 questions correct.

Although the Year 8 team got a higher score than us we still had fun!
I enjoyed practicing for Cantamath because it helped me have strategies for the competition.

My next steps are to communicate more so we have a better chance at getting more correct answers.

Here is the finished product!
This is where we hung it in the Horncastle Arena!

3. Sign.jpg

We still have a lot of extra cleaning up to do because of the paint all over the wooden seats, concrete and paintbrushes.

Hope you enjoyed my post.
Feel free to comment.

100WC Week 1 TRM3

This week The 100WC prompt was a picture.
Here is the picture

I was lost in the woods as the darkness crept towards me.
I had nowhere to sleep and nothing to eat or drink. I sat under the trees and watched the magical forest get swept up into the sky. The magic was glistening like crystals as the sun started creeping around the corner, I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was beautiful!

Suddenly I awakened, it must have been a dream. It was the best dream I had ever had.
I walked out of my room and into the kitchen, my family greeted me as I slowly stepped into the room...

William Pike Challenge- Rock Climbing

Monday 20th June, 2016

On Monday the 20th June, the year 7 and 8’s went Rock Climbing at CattleStop Crag, which is in the Port Hills. We were going Rock Climbing for the William Pike Challenge Award. We all travelled by car, I was in Andrea’s car with, Jacob, Prudence, Bella P and Bella N.

At the start of the morning I was very anxious and excited at the same time. I was anxious because I’ve hardly ever been Rock Climbing. And excited because I was glad I got to spend a day with my friends and a day away from school.
Finally when everyone got to school we set off to the Port Hills! Immediately as we got to the top of Summit Road we jumped out of the cars, we all grabbed a helmet and harness and followed our instructors Josh and Steven down the track to where we were going to be climbing. Then Josh talked to us about the values of rock climbing. Our Values were “Pride and Resilience”. And then he told us how they affect our everyday lives. ‘Resilience’ means to be tough and don’t give up. And ‘Pride’ means to be pleased with your own accomplishments.

After Josh and Steven finished explaining what we were going to be doing, they chose six people to go abseiling while everybody else was climbing.  When it was my turn to climb, I decided to start on the easiest wall.  I started climbing up the wall, I was having a bit of trouble at the start because
I couldn’t find a place to put my feet. I eventually made it up to the top. Now it was time to climb down.
I was very nervous about climbing down because it was a long way down.
Eventually I started climbing down slowly but quickly.
When I got to the bottom, I said ‘I want to do that again’.

Sadly it was nearly time to go back to school, there was only three people left to go abseiling, it was Base, Prudence and I . We walked over to the hill where we were going to be walking backwards off a cliff! Prudence went first, Base went second and I went lucky last. When it was my turn Steven asked me if I knew what the best part of going last was, I said no, he said it was because you get to make a grand entrance. At first I thought it was only Mrs Royfee, Prudence, Base and Jacqui, but it turned out that everyone was down there. When I got down to the bottom everyone got asked what they were proud of. I said making it up to the top of the rock wall.

I really enjoyed our Rock Climbing for the William Pike Challenge and can’t wait for our next!

100WC

This week's 100 Word Challenge was very easy at sometimes, but also very hard because sometimes I had too many words.
Here it is:

I had just got an invitation to Japan, it turns out I was invited to a performance of people playing violins. I couldn’t wait!
I was so excited.

It was time for my flight. I then realised that I forgot to pack my violin

I stared at the clock to see what time it was, It was time to walk over to ‘Gate 7’, as I was walking I saw someone eating some yellow peppers. I thought to myself I don’t think I’ve ever eaten yellow peppers before.

I was now on my plane, the Airplane swept off into the sky.

100 Word Challenge

This week's challenge was really hard because we had to think about a conversation between a man and a statue.

I was waiting patiently for Air NZ Flight 560 to fly back to my hometown, Leeds, a northern city in England. I couldn’t wait to see my beautiful GrandChildren.

I had been waiting for about 2 hours, I was so tired of standing, so I decided to find a park bench outside a restaurant, where I could also have a bite to eat.

Finally I found a park bench. There was a man sitting there, as still as a statue. We started chatting about worldly news. “How do you feel about everything that’s happening around the world right now?”, he asked politely, “I’m not really sure, I replied.”

My Amazing Race Record

In Rimu Class, we have just started doing The Amazing Race, which is technically a reading project. We have to read Chapter Books. Each time we finished a book we had to write a summary about it and then record a fact about each country. I hope you enjoy my facts, please comment on this. Thanks!

My Reading "2 Diary Entries"

These are my two diary entries that I had to write for my reading as part of my ANZAC reading tasks. I also found out what a diary entry was because I wasn't really sure what it was at first. I have also explained what a diary entry is down below.

A diary entry is a record with different entries arranged by date reporting on what has happened over the course of a day.
Hope you enjoy!

Day 1

Dear Diary, Today I felt horrified and sad for all of the soldiers because of all of the gunshot wounds and broken bones. It was tough looking after them as well because every time I would look at their wounds I felt like I was going to cry.

Day 2

Dear Diary, Today
Allied forces landed on Gallipoli the 25th of April. British forces made the main landing at Cape Helles on the southern tip of Gallipoli, while the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps landed midway up the peninsula. We were sent 2 km north of our intended landing place, we came upon really determined Ottoman forces in the rugged country above the beach (soon named Anzac Cove). Unable to make any convincing advance, we ANZACS spent the next few days desperately holding onto our small beach.

Week 4 100 Word Challenge

This week's 100 Word Challenges prompt was "as the flame flickered and then went out..."
I had a few ideas for this but none of it fitted in with the prompt, so I decided to have a look at some of my friends stories for ideas.
Hope you enjoy. :)

I know what you’re thinking, weird right. I’ll start from the beginning... It was the middle of the night, suddenly I jumped, I had had a very weird nightmare, it was very detailed as well. I was so scared that I realised that I couldn’t get back to sleep, I needed some light so I leant other to my bedside table lighting all three of my beautiful smelling candles, One of them smelt like roses, and the two others smelt like lavender. Swooosh, I saw a shadow fly past my bed, I began to curl up as the flame flickered and then went out...

'One Night'

This Week the 100 Word Challenge prompts were:

Silence   Orange    Thunder    Pyjamas    Swam

I found it really difficult to write this 100 Word Challenge because we had to include all 5 words in our story.
I look forward to seeing your comments.

One night as I was wandering home from a long day of work, I came across a cat wearing orange spotted pyjamas. I was very confused why this cat was even wearing pyjamas.

I finally reached home. As soon as I walked into the house, there was 10 seconds of silence then, ‘BANG’ out of nowhere the house started filling up with water, but it was no ordinary coloured water, it was ‘Orange’!

By the time the house was completely full of water, we all swam out the window and into the terrifying thunder and lightning storm.

I didn’t like the thought of this at all.

My TimeTable for Term 2!

This term our school are focussing on our school values. This term our value is being an Enthusiastic Learner. This means we are focussing on sticking to our timetables. This also means that we are trying to be more self managed and individual. Here is my timetable for term 2.

'Stairway to the Sky'

                                   'Stairway to the Sky'

This Term Rimu class have been participating in the 100 World Challenge. Every week there is a new topic/prompt that we have to write 100 words. I really enjoyed writing this story because it is really fun thinking of what you're going to write with that topic/prompt.

I was wandering around the fields, suddenly I heard an Elephant stomping around. I decided to follow the noise, and it took me to a place I had never been before. As I got closer the Elephant got louder. Out of nowhere the noise just stopped.

The next day I went back to the exact same place, as it was lighter outside, I saw a stairway up to the sky. I chose to walk up, as it may not have been the best choice. I was very quiet and sneaky.

After 1,000 I made it up into the sky. ( Yes, I know what you’re thinking, I counted.)
