Chapter 1: The Witch’s Warning

1. What did Denzil think would happen to his powers if he became a thief? (Denzil thought this would happen if he became a thief …. because he knew that thieves that were caught had their hands chopped off.    √

2. Why do you think that Denzil preferred to be thought of as a burglar than a thief? (Denzil preferred burglar because …. it sounded more honourable.    √

3. Why was Denzil desperate for food? (Denzil was desperate for food because …. he didn’t have any proper food at his house.    √

4. The old woman is called Mother Wyse. What does her last name tell the reader about her? (Mother Wyse’s name tells us that she is …. probably wise.    √

5. Give reasons that Denzil wanted to get food from Mother Wyse

(Denzil went to Mother Wyse to get food because …. he didn’t have any honey for hedgehog pie.    √  YUM!?

6. Who is Valvasor? (Valvasor is …. Denzil’s master.    √

7. Explain why Valvasor had smacked Denzil on the ear when Denzil

called Mother Wyse “Old Battybirds”.

(Valvasor smacked Denzil because …. Denzil called her old batty bird because of the bird that flies above her.   X But WHY?

(Mother Wyse got to her house so quickly because …. because she knew about Valvasor.     X No. How else could she get there so fast?    She could be a witch.

9. How did Denzil end up living with Valvasor?

Chapter 2: Fast Forward to Wednesday

1. In what way are Denzil and Valvasor different? (Denzil is a thief  while Valvasor is a normal person doing what he loves___)     √

2. What did Denzil make out of the clay (using magic spell) (Denzil made a dragon  out of clay)     √

3. Predict: How do you think this creature will affect the story? (This creature will … come out of its hidden spot and damage the area of the village.?     √ Do you like a bit of violence? Yes!

4. What makes Denzil think that it is Valvasor who is in trouble? (Denzil thinks that it is Valvasor who is in trouble because ….of the things Mrs Wyse said they didn’t match anything about him only Valvasor.     √ Great thinking.

5. Why is it important to Denzil that Valvasor stays alive? (Denzil wants Valvasor to stay alive because ….he won’t be able to manage life by himself with Mrs Wyse around.     √

6. Why didn’t Denzil go to London? (Denzil did not go to London because …. he didn’t know how to get there in time for Rue Wednesday.     √

7. List some of the ingredients Denzil needed to make the spell. (To make the spell, Denzil

used …. a flat medallion is all.)     √

8. Where do you think Denzil has ended up?  What makes you think that? (I think that Denzil has ended up in the middle of the human world because …. he may have said the spell too fast and may have mucked up some of the words.     √

Chapter 3: Meeting Sam

Read pages 20, 21 and up to “Jesus have mercy!” he wailed.  “God have mercy! I’m dead, I’m dead” on page 22.

1. List at least 3 things that Denzil thinks are strange? (Denzil things that some people are talking, a cat and dog yowled and there was a weird whooshing sound are strange.     √

2. What did Denzil put on his head? (Denzil put Theresas knickers on his head.)     √

3. From the last paragraph, where does Denzil think that he is? (Denzil thinks he is in London but he is actually in Londfield.     √

4. What does Denzil do to prove to Sam that he is in fact a wizard?

(This is what Denzil does to show Sam that he is a wizard…. he held out his hand, closed his hand, breathed a few words and then opened his fingers and on his palm was an egg, smooth and shining.     √ Great detail here Laura.

5. What kind of person is Sam? (Sam is …. a witch/bird/wizard?    X REALLY?      Confident and stands up for herself.

Chapter 4: Denzil Gets His Orders

1. Who are Travis and Theresa? (Travis is ….  Sam’s brother.Theresa is ….  Sam’s sister.     √

2. Who does Sam like best, Travis or Theresa? Why? (Sam likes Travis best because he isn’t mean to her as much as Theresa     √

3. Why is Theresa so mad with Sam? (Theresa is mad at Sam because  she left her hairdryer in the laundry.     √

4. Why is Sam so mad at Denzil? (Sam is mad at Denzil because he made the treehouse a mess and left the rats cage wide open and also burnt a hole in the cushion.     √

5. Why does Sam feel so cold and afraid? (Sam feels cold and afraid because …. Denzil made a mess all through the tree house and scared Sam to death.

6. How was Denzi able to hide from Sam earlier? (Denzil was able to hide from Sam by …. making a hole in the cushion and sleeping in it with the rat Murgatroyd.

7. Why does Sam threaten to ‘punch his lights out’?  (Sam wants to punch Denzil because …. Denzil said girls need to clean.

The House

Intro:

I jumped off my kayak, on my journey to hide away. And my first hidden spot was at a mysterious island, that never seems to be visited.

CHAPTER 1:

Harold is only 15 years old and he has already convicted to murder.

He has hazel hair, green eyes, and has cuts on his neck. The reason he was going to the island was so that he wouldn’t have to go to jail. He travelled to the island by kayak.

When he arrived he saw a mansion as tall as Mount Everest. [which is pretty tall]

One day Harold decided that he would leave his country so he wouldn’t have to go to jail.

So he packed up some gear and fled to this “lonely to be” island.

He jumped into his kayak and started paddling to the island. He wasn’t really sure how to get to the island but he eventually found his way.

CHAPTER 2:

As he walked up the mysterious path towards the mansion, he could see all the dark colours spreading over the house, the house is black and grey with vines and cobwebs all over it. It also has spikes over the front of the house. As I look around me, I see bushes surrounding me with clown heads popping up everywhere I look. He began to open the creaky, oily door, it wasn’t opening very easily and the handle seemed to be all bloody over the goldish, cold handle. I peeped through the door, to see, a tall, frozen clown with a bright red nose and bright red lips. He also had a giant rainbow afro.

He began moving backwards away from the door,  slowly thinking to himself, what is going to happen now?

He peeked through the door again, staying absolutely quiet wondering what was going to happen next. He stared at the stairs, the clown was not there anymore, he looked around the door, the clown suddenly came straight in front of him, scaring the heck out of him!

He decided to find another island, because that house was absolutely creepy!

The next few years were pretty difficult for Harold, he hadn’t seen his family for two years now, and was a bit homesick, but he knew if he went back home he would have to go to court and also might have to go to jail.

Smashing Sport!

As soon as, it was Friday at Hornby High, Yaldhurst Model School went to have an afternoon of WInter Sports. I felt excited, nervous and ready to win. The YMS students year 5-8 were ready for a challenge and also a bit of fun.

First of all, we made sure everybody was ready and we had everything, such as the netballs and court numbers. We drove to sport, most people went on the bus but some people went in cars.

Furthermore our coaches and our school went to the netball courts or fields, year 5-6 netball first started on court six, we did warm-ups- lunges and shuttles. Our Coaches name was, Tegan. Our scores for our games were, 3-1,  3-0, 3-2, 5-1. [ We Won them all]

We versed, Hornby Diamond, Gilberthorpe Nuggets, Templeton and another which I can not remember. Without a doubt we smashed everybody.

‘We waited for everybody to finish their games from our school, and we packed everything up and got ready to head back to school.

We congratulated everybody, with either Player of the Day or Most improved Player.

Can’t wait for next week!!!
