The HARDEST challenge of my Life!

The HARDEST
challenge of my Life!

Wednesday, 24th August 2016.

Today was the day of the competition; we had practice at break times, made exhibition art, and had a lot of fun.

A week before Cantamath, our classes had a task of making exhibitions for the competition. My group; Bella P, Bella N, Prudence and I decided to make a banner. It took about a week and a half to complete it (and got paint everywhere in the process!).

The banner is for supporting your school at the teams’ competition. It must be no larger than 5m x 2m. The banner can be hung from the top section of the stands at the East end of the arena - but must not interfere with the running of the team competition below.
There are two prizes in this section:
  • Best Visual Appeal - as judged by the Cantamath committee
  • Best Supporting Crowd - judged on the amount of noise on the night!

(We’re still waiting for an answer; whether we got a prize or not.)

We got to the Arena at 3:40 pm. We were nervous and excited.
Your team gets 5 points each time you get a question right. Our team got 20 points= 4 questions correct.

Although the Year 8 team got a higher score than us we still had fun!
I enjoyed practicing for Cantamath because it helped me have strategies for the competition.

My next steps are to communicate more so we have a better chance at getting more correct answers.

Here is the finished product!
This is where we hung it in the Horncastle Arena!

We still have a lot of extra cleaning up to do because of the paint all over the wooden seats, concrete and paintbrushes.

Hope you enjoyed my post.
Feel free to comment.

William Pike Challenge Award, Surfing

On Monday 21st March the Year 7/8s from Rimu Class went surfing for the day at Sumner Beach as our first Outdoor Challenge for the William Pike Award.

It wasn't how I expected it at all because on tv people are really good and then we were like newbies so it was really weird watching everyone.
The things I found challenging were standing up on the board and remembering all the movements.
Some interesting things I found out about my classmates were that some had surfed before and some hadn't but overall I think everyone had a blast.
When I do it again I will probably remember some of the movements that we learnt.

Below is My Poem:

SURFING!

I smelt the disgusting salty air.
I smelt the salty water.
I smelt fish & chips.

I heard dogs barking as they were chasing after sticks.
I heard the waves crashing down on each other.
I heard people cheering people on when they achieved their goals.
I heard seagulls fighting over salty chips.

I felt the water touch my skin as I stepped in the water.
I felt the salty water burn my eyes.
I felt my board whack me on the head.
I felt my head banging in my brain.

I tasted the salty water run down my throat.
I tasted the salt on my lips.
I saw dogs chasing after each other.
I saw people staring at us and taking pictures.
I saw the waves pushing people off their boards.

William Pike Challenge Award

During Tuesday morning, and afternoon Rimu class were in and out of the classroom running around cooking for probably, one of the most important tasks this year. We were cooking for our parents, our siblings, ourselves and most importantly William Pike himself. Sadly I wasn’t able to make it that night so I didn’t get to see him.
My group made a vegan pasta salad, and created a station where you can make your own tacos.
I would’ve loved to have eaten some of the food our class made but I wasn’t able too. The next day our class was talking about what we were looking forward to and how to record what we have accomplished.

On Monday the 21st of March we all went surfing it was actually quite fun I would do it again if I had to. I also managed to stand up.

I’m really excited to go day hiking and also try all the other challenges. This year is awesome!
