'Stairway to the Sky'

                                   'Stairway to the Sky'

This Term Rimu class have been participating in the 100 World Challenge. Every week there is a new topic/prompt that we have to write 100 words. I really enjoyed writing this story because it is really fun thinking of what you're going to write with that topic/prompt.

I was wandering around the fields, suddenly I heard an Elephant stomping around. I decided to follow the noise, and it took me to a place I had never been before. As I got closer the Elephant got louder. Out of nowhere the noise just stopped.

The next day I went back to the exact same place, as it was lighter outside, I saw a stairway up to the sky. I chose to walk up, as it may not have been the best choice. I was very quiet and sneaky.

After 1,000 I made it up into the sky. ( Yes, I know what you’re thinking, I counted.)

My True or False Holiday

In the first week of Term 2, Rimu class had to write a story about our holiday whether  it was True or False.
Leave your thoughts in the comments down below, and write what you think it was, True or false?

True or False?

On the first Saturday of the school holidays My dad’s side of my family drove to Rangiora to see my Nana and Pop. That day I got my birthday present early because I wouldn’t see them on my birthday. After lunch we walked over the road to the Rangiora park to go on the Go-Kart.
All the Grandkids got to have a go, Gus got the longest because he was the oldest, my cousin Macie had not as long which she was grumpy about.

At the end when it was my cousin Nico’s turn he went too fast and flipped it over and he got crushed……. sort of!
We walked back to my Nana and Pop’s house and then we all had an ice-cream.

Macie and I walked into the spare bedroom and she went on her Ipad and I went on my Iphone, we both decided to make ‘Musical.ly’s’ which are videos of yourself lip syncing to songs… sort of, if you know what I mean.

After about an hour of doing that sadly I had to leave.

So that was my Holiday.

Do you think it was True or False?

Top Ten ways To Look After Your ChromeBook

For the past few weeks Rimu class have been learning about Cybersmart and how to care for our ChromeBooks. We had to make an Imovie on how to look after them. We also got to choose our groups, the people in my group were Bella N and Grace.
The cool thing about our school  is all of the senior students have their own ChromeBook which is helpful for their learning and for finding out information.

Down below is our video, hope you enjoy it.

William Pike Challenge Award, Surfing

On Monday 21st March the Year 7/8s from Rimu Class went surfing for the day at Sumner Beach as our first Outdoor Challenge for the William Pike Award.

It wasn't how I expected it at all because on tv people are really good and then we were like newbies so it was really weird watching everyone.
The things I found challenging were standing up on the board and remembering all the movements.
Some interesting things I found out about my classmates were that some had surfed before and some hadn't but overall I think everyone had a blast.
When I do it again I will probably remember some of the movements that we learnt.

Below is My Poem:

SURFING!

I smelt the disgusting salty air.
I smelt the salty water.
I smelt fish & chips.

I heard dogs barking as they were chasing after sticks.
I heard the waves crashing down on each other.
I heard people cheering people on when they achieved their goals.
I heard seagulls fighting over salty chips.

I felt the water touch my skin as I stepped in the water.
I felt the salty water burn my eyes.
I felt my board whack me on the head.
I felt my head banging in my brain.

I tasted the salty water run down my throat.
I tasted the salt on my lips.
I saw dogs chasing after each other.
I saw people staring at us and taking pictures.
I saw the waves pushing people off their boards.

William Pike Challenge Award

During Tuesday morning, and afternoon Rimu class were in and out of the classroom running around cooking for probably, one of the most important tasks this year. We were cooking for our parents, our siblings, ourselves and most importantly William Pike himself. Sadly I wasn’t able to make it that night so I didn’t get to see him.
My group made a vegan pasta salad, and created a station where you can make your own tacos.
I would’ve loved to have eaten some of the food our class made but I wasn’t able too. The next day our class was talking about what we were looking forward to and how to record what we have accomplished.

On Monday the 21st of March we all went surfing it was actually quite fun I would do it again if I had to. I also managed to stand up.

I’m really excited to go day hiking and also try all the other challenges. This year is awesome!

Wonder Point Of View/ Writing

Our writing last week was to write a short essay explaining what point of view R.J Palacio used when writing  ‘Wonder’. We also found examples from the story and added quotes to back up our statements. We had to write  an introduction, 3 paragraphs and a conclusion. I hope you like my essay and please comment.

‘Wonder’ is a story about a boy who feels ordinary on the inside, but he is always reminded of how different he is by how people respond when they see him. This is R.J Palacio’s first novel and it is written in the first person.
August is speaking in first person, because at the beginning he says,

Firstly August says,
I know i’m no ordinary ten-year-old, I mean sure I do ordinary things like eat ice-cream, I ride my bike, I play ball and I have an XBox, stuff like that makes me ordinary.

Likewise August said something on the first page saying,
“ If I had a magic lamp I would wish that I had a normal face.” Which means he doesn’t have an normal face.

August saw something in the playground and said to himself,  “But I know that other ordinary kids don’t make other ordinary kids run away screaming in the playground.”

Therefore I think that “Wonder’ is a great book and R.J Palacio is a fantastic author. And I can’t wait to listen to more of it.
