Here is my story -

Today was Tuesday the 13th of May. It has been a dry, tiring day in the desert. Macy was a tall, courageous girl with a bright and bubbly personality. She wasn’t afraid of what might happen on her missions. Instead she was hopeful she would find something mysterious; leading to investigation.
Today Macy was in the middle of nowhere looking for any indications of life. She was flying her plane when she heard puttering noises coming from the failing engine. She had no way of fixing it before the plane crashed. So she pulled out her binoculars and searched the area for a place to land. Her eyes were red from rubbing them. She was exhausted. That’s when a light flickered. Frantically she grabbed her binoculars once again and lifted them up into sight. That was when she saw a lighthouse in the distance. She began to grow hopeful, hopeful of what might be in there or if there’s anything to help her with her mission. At that very moment the light from the lighthouse pointed towards something. She turned around. It was pointing towards a rain cloud.
The thought of seeing rain made Macy pleased because there obviously hadn’t been any rain here for a while. The plane bounded through the sky, that’s when she realised what had happened. The engine had malfunctioned; causing it to crash into a building. She didn’t know what type of building it was until she got out of her plane and looked around. The smoke caused her breathing to be a struggle. Eventually she had made her way out of the cloud of smoke and into the open air. She walked through the sand. Within minutes she realised what building she crashed into. The Lighthouse!
She walks into the lighthouse and begins to investigate the premises. Huge, hairy spiders creeping the stairwells. Waddling up the stairs. She makes her way to the tip of the lighthouse and sees a dog. The dog sprints towards her, pushes her down to the ground and begins to lick her sweaty face. Macy calls the dog and he begins to follow her lead. They walk down the stairs, around the corner and out the door.
Suddenly, the dog sees the big rain cloud. He leaps into the sky and flies over to the cloud. And boom out of nowhere he grabs the cloud with his sharp teeth and drags it over to this big hole where it looks like an ocean used to be.
Thankfully the dog annoyed the cloud so much it began to rain. They were filled with joy!
The End

Thank you for reading my story. It would be very helpful to have feedback on what I did well and what I could improve on.

Book Award Day

Today our class went to St Margaret's to see 6 finalists from the NZ Book Awards.
They gave us a description of what the books were about and some read a snippet of the book.
Here are some of the Authors/Illustrators:

Tania Roxborough - She is a children's writer who has written around 25 books.

David Elliot - Is an Award winning Author and Illustrator
who has written and illustrated 7 picture books.

Leonie Agnew - The Impossible Boy
It took 8 years to write this book.

Simon Pollard -  is a successful children’s book author, spider expert and natural history writer.

Jenny Cooper - is an award-winning illustrator of more than 70 children's books.

Des Hunt - Sunken Forest is his book. It is based 60 years ago. It is based on him when he was 13 years. He went to a Summer Camp and Lake Waikaremoana. It is surrounded by bush and has a great walk of NZ.

My favourite author was Des Hunt because I found his description of his book very intriguing and he had a lot of interesting photos about what his book was about.

Netball Zones

Wednesday 2nd August

On Wednesday we had Zones for Netball.
We played at the Rolleston College Netball Courts.
The games started at 10:30 AM.
And each game went for 5 minutes each way.

We had a lot of fun playing our first few games until it started to rain.
It was a lot harder to play while it was raining because the ball was very slippery.
We were meant to have 5 games but only ended up having 4 because the last game was cancelled.

The Holidays

During the school holidays, I stayed at home most of the time. I went to the mall twice but that was about it.
In the first week it snowed. It snowed all night and morning. The next day my Mum wouldn't let me go outside in the snow with my sister because I was sick.
So I stayed in bed.

I was sick mainly all holidays so I didn't do much.
On the 19th I went bowling with Hannah, Prudence, Grace, and Bree for Hannah's Birthday. I enjoyed spending time with my friends for the first time all holiday. Later on we went back to Hannah's house and did Karaoke. Then we had dinner; it was a Pizza Cake.
Then we watched a movie.
We had gotten about 20 minutes into the movie and I ended up getting a migraine so I ended up going home.

The rest of the holidays I spent most of my time in bed sleeping, and listening to music.

Friday Sport

On Friday the 26th of May, our school went to Hornby High for Friday sport. When we got there the Year 5/6 Hockey, Netball, Football, and the Year 7/8 Netball got off. The Year 7/8 Football stayed on the bus because they were playing at Wycola Park.

Our Team (Year 7/8 Netball) had 3 minutes before our game, so we quickly warmed up and got our bibs. We were versing Prebbleton Gems. We then got into our positions to play. We had a very good 1st half, we were winning 7-4 and had a lot of great intercepts. We went off for about 2 minutes, had a drink. I played GA (Goal Attack) and Ariana was GS (Goal Shoot) so we were shooting together. By the time we had finished the game we had won 11-7. Grace got most improved for not passing to Ariana. And I got Player of the day.
That was our game!

Who Views My Blog?

We often share personal information when we are online. The people we share with could be our friends and family or people we don't know. We need to make smart decisions about what personal information we share online.

Road Safety Week

This Week is New Zealand Road Safety Week.
I had the task of creating and finding activities for our school to do.

This took a lot of time to prepare because I had to figure out which activities were suitable for each class.

Here is the doc I made to show the teachers which activities they're doing.

Kahoot Quiz for Everyone:

Te Kakano & Te Pihinga

Play a road safety game with cones.
Set up different scenarios with cones and boxes as vehicles, with zebra crossings, and get them to do the right things. Eg. If you want to cross the road to get to the ice-cream shop, you have to?

‘Stop, Look, and Listen’

Te Mahuri:

Create Posters for Road Safety, with pictures (stop signs, zebra crossing etc.) and explain what Road Safety is.

Rimu:

Answer questions about it.

Video: (The Boy who didn’t look for a safe place to cross.)

Get someone in to talk to the class about road safety and why it is so important.

Digital Dig

This Week for Cybersmart we started the Digital Dig.
We had to find out keyboard shortcuts for our Chromebooks. I found this pretty easy because I already knew some of the shortcuts.
But I didn't have enough time to finish it all.

Spaghetti Challenge

On Tuesday our class had been given the challenge of making a tower out of spaghetti and marshmallows.
The Year 8's had already done this challenge at Tech so we had a bit of an idea of how to do it.
There were 30 pieces of spaghetti and 10 marshmallows per group. And 30 minutes to create your tower.

Our idea was to make boxes with triangles to balance it and then stack them all together, but it didn't go to plan so we basically just gave up.

Here is a photo of our group trying to make our tower.🤣
